Several of our Members have asked whether they should wear a mask whilst training in class.

In response, we have sought professional advice from the NHS in Berkshire.

The overall advice for indoor settings is: you should wear a face covering in indoor places [not listed here] where social distancing may be difficult and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.”

However, you are permitted to remove a face covering if you are undertaking exercise or an activity and it would negatively impact your ability to do so.”

In the light of this advice, we are updating our protocol for a trial period, as follows:


Masks should be worn in class during training unless

  • you are unable to wear a mask for health reasons (such as asthma, COPD, and other respiratory conditions)
  • you are caused distress or anguish as a result of having your face covered
  • communication becomes too difficult or impossible


If you fall into the first two categories and wish to train without wearing a mask, please inform us in advance, giving your reasons.
